The IRCE is to host seven laboratories in one building for the diagnosis of infectious diseases like HIV, drug-resistant tuberculosis, ebola, lassa fever, etc. These laboratories are, sample processing and biorepository laboratory, clinical services & molecular diagnostics laboratory, molecular pathology laboratory, genomics and bioinformatics laboratory, proteomics and metabolics laboratory, immunology and tissue culture laboratory, a Bio-Safety Laboratory 3, and a maintenance section.
Currently, the IRCE coordinates research activities utilizing laboratory infrastructure established and supported by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) such as: National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Training Center (NTBLTC) BL3 Laboratory in Zaria; Plateau State Human Virology Research Center (PLASVIREC) laboratory in Jos; the Asokoro Laboratory Training Center in Asokoro District Hospital; and three bio-repositories in high volume research areas to support IHVN and affiliated investigators’ domestic and international research endeavors.
