Newly Funded Study: Lung Cancer in Nevers Smokers’ Study (Sherlock Lung)

Dr. Elima Enaji Jedy-Agba has recently received a grant from National Cancer Institute (NCI)/ National Institute of Health (NIH) ($24,730) for the Sherlock lung cancer study. This funding will support a pilot study aimed at investigating the causes and progression of lung cancer in never smokers in Nigerian population.

This project will last 12 months and has the following specific objectives:

• To identify risk factors for lung cancer in never smokers in the Nigerian population
• To characterize the genomic landscape of lung cancer in never smokers.
• To store blood and lung tissue samples in the IHVN Biorepository for future collaborative research.

The proposed study will contribute to the understanding of the causes and progression of lung cancer in never smokers. The study will provide important information about the epidemiology, and risk factors for lung cancer in Never smokers in Nigeria. The sherlock study pilot will be implemented at National Hospital Abuja, University of Calabar Teaching hospital, Calabar and Amino Kano Teaching hospital, Kano.
